Lulu First Pigeons

Had a great time training this past weekend in Beaver. Jared Moss was the host again and found an even better training location just west of the dump. There was some young grass and rolling hills and a little less sage brush. We had a half dozen members in attendance and did a lot of work with young dogs on pigeons.

The Southern Utah Pointing Dog Club is coming back to life and they had their first training day in Cedar City. Jared was able to attend and support their event. They are hoping to hold a fun hunt and then some AKC hunt tests in the near future. They have a pretty good core group of people and should have a nice club.

UHDR training Day in Nephi

Travis Proctor invited some club members up to Nephi to train with his buddies and their high-octane english pointers and setters. They had some serious chukar hunting dogs that ran bigger than big.

Our second training day ever was a great success. We met our goal of doubling our attendance. We had 10 hunting dog owners show up with about 24 dogs between us all. The really cool thing was the variety of gun dog breeds. We had a Hungarian Vizsla, Weimaraner, German Shorthaired Pointers, English Pointers and American Brittany dogs.

We will have plenty of wild-caught pigeons on hand for dog training. The training day will go from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM or whenever you get tired of training. Come meet the club members and learn more about training your bird dog to be a better hunting dog and obedient companion. Questions, call Jon Lee (435) 313-1212Englsih Pointer Puppy - Lucy

Youth Hunt French Brittany C. Cannon A few of our club members attended the Southern Utah Youth Bird Hunt this year in Cedar City. They were in need of additional dog handlers to volunteer their time for this worth while event. Many of the more than 100 youth in attendance had their first pheasant hunting experience with pointing dogs. This was a blast for us to help introduce more youth to hunting and bird dogs all in the same day. Every single young person was able to shoot at least one pheasant and they enjoyed skeet shooting and a hamburger lunch. Many thanks to the sponsors and organizers for putting together a great event. UBDC members were proud to be involved.

Youth Hunting Pheasants

Training day in March was hosted by Jared Moss. Jared has been training and competing with his shorthairs for more than 12 years. Since his old GSP was getting on in years he decided to try a brittany puppy this time.

I wanted to take some pictures so Jared was kind enough to run a couple of my puppies. This is a little shorthair Luna that I am starting for a friend at the pheasant preserve. She has a good nose and stands her birds nicely.
